AEO India T1 Status 2026: New Fast-Track Self-Assessment Criteria
CBIC updates AEO India T1 eligibility for 2026. Learn how SME exporters can claim faster customs clearance and lower bank guarantee requirements today.

## Key points for AEO T1 Certification
In a move to bolster the ease of doing business, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued a fresh Circular dated August 07, 2026, simplifying the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) T1 application process. The update introduces a digitized 'Smart Self-Assessment' module that reduces the documentation burden for MSME exporters seeking the T1 status.
As per CBIC Circular No. 19/2026-Customs, the criteria for financial solvency have been recalibrated to allow smaller manufacturing units with a stable three-year credit history to qualify without exhaustive third-party audits. This shift aims to integrate more SMEs into the global supply chain by providing them with 'Green Channel' clearances.
## What this means for exporters
Exporters attaining AEO T1 status under these new rules will benefit from a significant reduction in the percentage of physical examination of export cargo. Furthermore, the requirement for furnishing bank guarantees for various customs functions is reduced to 50% of the standard amount, drastically improving cash flow for high-volume traders.
Who should act now: All SME manufacturers at Nhavasheva and Mundra ports currently operating without AEO certification should review their eligibility under the new solvency norms immediately.
