## Relaxed Norms for AEO India T3 Certification In a major boost for the MSME sector, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has released **Circular No. 22/2026-Customs dated August 5, 2026**. This circular amends the eligibility criteria for 'Authorized Economic Operator' (AEO) T3 status, specifically targeting high-performing small-scale exporters. ## Key points - **Reduced Thresholds:** The minimum number of shipping bills required over the last three financial years has been reduced for SMEs. - **Direct Port Delivery (DPD):** AEO T3 holders will now get priority access to DPD facilities, significantly cutting logistics costs. - **Bank Guarantee Waiver:** 100% waiver of bank guarantees for all customs clearings is now extended to qualifying SME AEO T3 entities. ## What this means for exporters Achieving AEO T3 status is the gold standard for Indian exporters. With these new relaxations, smaller units that maintain high compliance can now enjoy the same customs privileges as large conglomerates. This includes a dedicated relationship manager at customs and faster resolution of disputes. **Who should act now:** Export-oriented units currently holding AEO T1 or T2 status should review the new criteria to see if they qualify for an immediate upgrade to T3.
