Important RoDTEP update: DGFT mandates electronic Bank Realization Certificate (e-BRC) integration for automated claim verification for Indian exporters.
The Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme has undergone a significant procedural change designed to enhance transparency and reduce manual intervention. The DGFT has now fully integrated the e-BRC (electronic Bank Realization Certificate) system with the RoDTEP credit ledger. This move ensures that duty credits are only finalized once the foreign exchange realization is confirmed by the bank through the digital portal. ## What this means for exporters Previously, exporters could generate scrolls and receive provisional credits, but the reconciliation process often faced delays. Under the updated 2024 framework, the Customs ICEGATE system will cross-reference shipping bills with the e-BRC data transmitted by banks to the DGFT server. As per the latest DGFT Trade Notice on the 'revamped e-BRC system', exporters must proactively track their realization status on the DGFT dashboard to avoid the suspension of RoDTEP benefits. If the realization is not recorded within the timeframe prescribed under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), the system will automatically trigger a recovery process for the credits disbursed. This automation necessitates a closer coordination between the exporter’s finance team and their Authorized Dealer (AD) banks to ensure timely filing of realization details. This system is a step toward a fully paperless export ecosystem, reducing the compliance burden for high-volume manufacturers and ensuring that duty remissions accurately reflect realized export proceeds.
