Under the 'Development of Commercial Horticulture through Production and Post-Harvest Management' scheme, exporters and farmers can avail of credit-linked back-ended subsidies for setting up hi-tech greenhouses, poly-houses, and shade net houses. As detailed in the NHB Scheme Guidelines, the subsidy covers up to 50% of the project cost in hilly and scheduled areas, and 40% in other areas, subject to specific ceilings. This infrastructure is critical for manufacturers and exporters who need to maintain stringent quality standards for international markets, particularly for flowers, vegetables, and exotic fruits. The use of controlled environments ensures pesticide-free produce and year-round availability, which are key requirements for European and Middle Eastern buyers. ## Key points for SME exporters To qualify, the project must be credit-linked, meaning a bank loan is mandatory. Applications must be submitted through the NHB online portal before the commencement of the project to obtain an In-Principle Approval (IPA). Exporters should ensure that their technical specifications meet the NHB standards for ventilation, irrigation systems, and structural integrity to avoid disqualification during the Joint Inspection Team (JIT) visit.
